HELIOS ENERGY PARK – EAST SUFFOLK
INTRODUCING OUR DEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS
Helios is developing plans for a new energy park near Friston, East Suffolk.
The park is a new solar project with integrated battery storage (BESS). It would generate 250MW of clean energy, helping to meet the UK’s growing demand for sustainable power, while improving national energy security and grid resilience.
The BESS would capture energy generated from the solar farm and release it to the National Grid to meet energy demands. This helps to regulate the energy grid and enables the more efficient use of renewable power.
Solar energy has a key role to play in powering the country and boosting our energy independence. The Government has recently published the Solar Roadmap, which confirms UK ambitions to deliver 47GW of solar energy by 2030. Helios Energy Park can make a significant contribution to achieving this target and helping to make the UK a clean energy superpower Helios is working with the National Energy System Operator (NESO) to explore grid connection arrangements locally.
TIMING AND SEQUENCING
We anticipate that the Helios Energy Park would be promoted through the Development Consent Order (DCO) process.
As with all our projects we are keen to mitigate any impact on both the community and the environment – and we acknowledge that there are a number of energy proposals coming forward in the area at the moment.
Helios will be collaborating with these other local energy projects to minimise disruption, and where possible avoiding development and construction works happening concurrently.
We have a strong commitment to working with local stakeholders and communities to bring forward our schemes, and are looking forward to engaging comprehensively with the community around Friston and East Suffolk once we have draft plans to present.
INFORMATION
The project is being brought forward by solar specialist BNRG, which has been at the forefront of the renewable energy industry for nearly 20 years. BNRG has a long track record of developing, constructing, and operating grid-scale solar PV and battery storage projects in Ireland, Great Britain and around the world.
We anticipate formally launching the development of the project at the end of 2025. As the project develops this website will grow to include additional information in the following areas:
